daniel johnson is a creator and explorer working in the fields of relational aesthetics and social practice. johnson engages communities in explorations of collective identity, governance, and the dispositions of structured space.

Through principles of game theory and a managed ambiguity between reality and theater, johnson leads his viewers in actions of practical consequence in a sleight of hand which distracts from the productivity achieved through play.

johnson identifies with the claim by French art critic Nicolas Bourriaud that "the role of artworks is no longer to form imaginary and utopian realities, but to actually be ways of living and models of action within the existing real".

Employing a variety of disciplines, johnson works through site-specific installation, staged reality, collaborative improvisation, and facilitated narrative construction  to radicalize humanity to the art of being.

daniel johnson makes art.
