at the Mississippi Museum of Art

Soon after Core Sample, a work of Significant Developments, LLC had concluded, the Director of Engagement and Learning, Kathy Accera approached me about being their Teaching Artist. I was honestly not sure about referring to my Self as a teacher and becoming so internalized by the Museum. I accepted to become the Museum's Artist in Residence.

Only two months into the work, Kathy suddenly had to leave her position and after some consideration, I approached Museum Director Betsy Bradley about performing the role as an art work.

As an institution, the Mississippi Museum of Art has really embraced the role of helping to create a sense of place through the arts. From their collection focus of "art created by people who lived in or were inspired by Mississippi" to The Art Garden, they lead in transforming Museums into community hubs for learning, engaging each other meaningfully, and curating a cultural experience which deepens ones sense of personal and community identity.

As a socially engaged artist performing the role of Director of Engagement and Learning at the Mississippi Museum of Art, I was driven by the same considerations which inform my other projects - collaborative problem solving and capacity building in groups through strategic real-world narrative construction. I completed this art work in May of 2017.
