Control Bells

As the Significant Developments team set out on a 3 month goal of 2222 hand-made clay bells, key to our success were some controls built into the system. The control bell embodied much of the flexibility and restriction within the system.

 

Half of our bells were control bells, featuring the algorithmic symbols Delta (a change has occurred) and the inflected equal sign (things stayed substantially the same).

 

The production of this bell was a safe guard in our process, allowing continued production regardless of how fast we were collecting symbols. This was especially important in the first month while we were still raising awareness. It was also a safe guard and a meditation for our minds, a gentle reminder that regarrdless of our actions, there will be a balance in our projects outcomes between our commmunity changing and staying substantially the same.

 

Because our symbol bells had different symbols on each side, we still had 2222 symbols submitted to the project - 1111 symbol bells and 1111 control bells.
