Symbols

Participants were invited to submit symbols which represented themselves as individuals. Over 1000 community members from 62 different Mississippi cities submitted symbols. Symbols were solicited in the Museum and state-wide through media advertisement, a digital learning prompt issued through public, private and home schools, as well as road trips throughout the state to look people in the eye and let them know the Mississippi Museum of Art wanted their voice in the project.

Assembly Line

For three months, the Signifant Developments team facilitated the creation of 2222 hand-made clay bells in a studio at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Hundreds of participants took part with roughly 50 returning, some four or five times. Our repeat visitors would become facilitators themselves. A five-year-old girl brought her dad on her third visit and independently led her dad through the process unassisted.
